The AMC group consists of a globally diverse set of businesses with multiple applications and processes in place. Several of the operational systems have been adapted to the business lines they cover, but all are now facing a common challenge, to align with the increasing need for rapid access to accurate data that can been securely maintained, automated and analysed. It was therefore evident to the AMC board that change was required in order to remain competitive and relevant in an ever increasingly digital landscape.
Until recently, many of the office processes within the group (across all departments) have been manual and paper based, although perfectly adequate for many years, the increasing availability of cost effective and reliable digital solutions has this year, enabled AMC to commence its modernisation journey of change within a mature and well-developed digital market.
Digital transformation (DT) means different things to different organisations, within AMC we see it as a way of enhancing the productivity and efficiency of all areas of the business. DT is also a cultural challenge that requires organisations to continually challenge the status quo and adapt to newways of working, with the support of our staff, we are taking great strides to achieve new ways of working. Initially the group has driven forward with the rollout of workflow and process automation tools, leading to a reduction in the use (and storage) of vast amounts of paper. Going forward we will continue to embrace new technologies and cloud-based platforms that provide the group with more modern and competitive ways of operating.
Over the coming years, we will embrace many of the now viable, safe and cost-effective technologies already used by businesses all over the world, with our aim of making both the customer and employee experiences of working with and in AMC as effective and efficient as possible.
“Digital transformation is also a cultural challenge that requires organisations to continually challenge the status quo and adapt to new ways of working.”
As a first step to a digital future, AMC has started with our core data sets (e.g., client files) in an effort to reduce costs and improve efficiency, particularly with regard to physical space and speed of data retrieval, this approach has led to improvements in;
• Customer experience
• Operational agility
• Culture and leadership
• Workforce enablement
• Technological integration
Aside from the introduction of technology to transform existing manual processes and to improve efficiency, many other benefits have also been realised;
• Removal of a large footprint of file storage
• Reduction in on/off site perishable documents
• Rapid access to documents through Google type searching
• Automated workflow processing
• Digital signatures
• Huge reductions in printing and paper use
• Anywhere access to data
• Auditable data creation and change management
This year in particular we have driven the transformation from age-old processes to online digital business, facilitating remote working just in time (and necessary) due to COVID-19.
We expect to continue progressively adapting our way of working by utilising proven, stable, and leading technological solutions that have had years of development and improvements due to other firms’ investments.
